Leadership Ladder

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world" - Nelson Mandela

The LCCC SIFE team has developed a project to build on the powerful words of Nelson Mandela. Leadership Ladder is a project aimed at South African girls. Getting an education is the first step in affecting change in the world.

Mary's story: August 2005

Mary is a 22 year old South African woman, who is still struggling to achieve her high school education. She sometimes must go a whole year at a time without going to school because she has no money to pay the fees. It takes her a year or more to save up the money to go back. Mary must work on a pineapple farm from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. every day to make enough money to live. She is determined to continue her education so that she can enter the Police Service. Mary wants to correct some of the injustices in her world and make a difference.

Mary has received a FAWE/CIRCLE scholarship to help her finish school. The scholarship pays for her fees, books, food, stationery, and medications until she graduates.

What will Leadership Ladder do?

This project is a lesson plan for 8th grade girls to instill in young girls the qualities necessary to stay in school and be a leader to others. The lesson plan covers topics such as self respect, self expectations, ethics, personal choices and wisdom

We would like to raise enough money to award 5 Ambassador Girl's Scholarship for the next year at a cost of $256.00 each.

This project will allow us to make a difference in the lives of young girls in South Africa today, so that they will have the chance to make a difference tomorrow.
